Sunday Scribblings - "If I had to live at a different time in history…"

Do you know what, I thought about it, and thought about it, and thought some MORE about it, and in the end I realised that there is not a single period in time, at any point in the history of humankind, when I would have preferred to live – if I had to live as a woman, that is. (Yes, I could have chosen to imagine myself a man, in which case I would’ve had all of history to choose from and a much bigger post to write - but I didn’t want to change my gender, even in imagination.)

So, I don’t think women have had a good deal ever, and the present time is probably the best that it has ever been for us. Maybe things will improve in the future, maybe at some point women will not have to kowtow to the unreasonable demands of society and religion … but there’s no way of telling just HOW far into the future that will be. So yeah, I’m glad I’m living in the here and now.

I agree with you! Plus the modern equipment like washing machines, refrigerators, computers etc. make it nice too!

Now we're lucky to be able to read about those times or watch movies, from the comfort of our present-day lives!
Although things are FAR from perfect today.

Nope, the scene is still not ideal -- here in India at least. Far from it. It has not even improved to MY satisfaction he he.

Yes I agree with you. I have been trying to work out what to write on this prompt and reading what others have written about it. Today's women have it good compared to women in other periods of history and I am definitely a woman and couldn't imagine not being one.

Agree-strangely this is exactly what a friend of mine said to me the other day!

It took me forever to figure out when I wanted to live. I like what you chose!

The same thought has been crossing my mind as I write about where I would want to be in history. It is true it really hasn't been long that women have had such freedom and power.

It's interesting that if you go to many societies from prehistory, there is much evidence that the feminine actually ruled.
History seems to be very much a man thing - so far.

Hi ,

I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Inspired to blog’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

Cheers,

That's what I had been thinking also. I ended up not writing anything for this prompt, but just because my life has been a bit hectic lately. I hope to get back to writing very soon.
Good job!
