The evil without?
“It is understood that US envoys have made clear that India ought to be able to strike at suspected terror camps if Pakistan fails to move against them.”
That final sentence from an article in The Independent online made me blink. How very kind of the US to worry so much about the terrorist attacks in Bombay. How marvelous to know that it is leading the international pressure on Pakistan to crack down on the terrorists. And, most of all, how magnanimous of the US to say that India ought to bomb suspected terror camps in Pakistan! (shades of Simi Garewal, perhaps? Her idea? Their idea? Who knows!) After all, exactly what India - and the world - needs in these times to take attention away from the worldwide economic meltdown is a fresh new war in this region (Afghanistan? Old news, m'dears. Do try to keep up.)
Right?

Well, I am not sure why we worry about what US thinks...but I guess it is good to have support of other world countries. No, I don't like war either. But I think the way Pak has been responding to our calls to extradite the terrorists is pathetic. How do we expect them to hold a fair trial when their own ISI is also under suspicion? They are ok with India and Pak sharing their findings but won't let any Indian interrogator near the captured suspects? I don't understand!!
I agree about Pak's uncooperative behaviour, but going to war isnt going to make Pak extradite anyone, and it WILL bring about a whole lot more loss of lives... and if either country even thought about nuclear warfare - it's a terrifying thought.
I doubt if we'll actually go to war.
This is my opinion ofcourse...but I think if India threatens Pak, US will be forced to increase the pressure on Pak which might work! US would not want Pak to move it's focus from Afghanistan to India. So hopefully International pressure may force Pak to give these people up. Again - just my theory. We've gotto wait and see
Your crabby mood picture is perfect for conveying how I feel. I'm too angry, sad and disgusted to say anymore.
Pak will play robber-and-police with LeT for some more time and refuse to hand over the booty to us. We will crib and complain for some more time and then get back to routine. Uncle Sam will say "tch tch" and return to work. Haven't we been through this umpteen times? How do we expect things to be different this time?
Shyam, teh US is so concerned only coz 26 goras, incl American citizens were killed in the attacks. And we all know that 1 american life is worth a lot more than the thousands of Indian (and Pakistani) lives that have been lost so far in terrorist attacks. May they all rot in hell for evermore.
I think the above comment is a bit biased!
I don't think the US is taking an active role here just cos one of their citizens died. I do think that they have a vested interest in keeping Pak focused in Afghanistan instead of moving the Pak troops to prepare for a Indo-pak war. Whatever be their reasons - if it works out favorable for us, I am not gonna complain.
As for the "1 american life is worth a lot more than the thousands of Indian (and Pakistani) lives" - hey, an american life IS more valuable - to an American.
It is up to us Indians to make sure that the Indian lives are very valuable to us too!!
PS. Sorry Shyam, for hogging your space :)
Awarded!
a war will also make for more economic woes for india and indians - will make it a lot less viable for FDI.. perhaps that too wld suit the west.
